Last week, I had the privilege of attending a transformative professional development session with Dr Jo Boaler, where we explored innovative approaches to building number sense in children. One of the key concepts we discussed was groupitizing—a strategy that helps young learners visualize numbers in groups, fostering a deeper understanding of quantities and patterns.
In this short video, I demonstrate how using simple number dot talks can help children recognise number relationships and build their number sense. These engaging talks empower students to approach maths with curiosity, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
Check it out below, and let me know your thoughts on how this could work in your classroom!
